Participants at a Two-day Training Workshop on Capacity Building for Community Based Organisations, have commended the Adamawa State Governor, Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his selfless commitment to the development of the State.
The workshop which held recently at the Hometel Hotel, Yola, was attended by over 100 participants drawn from the three Senatorial Zones in the state.
The participants were educated on issues which would trigger rural and community development, and accelerate community development in tandem with the aspirations of the state Governor.
Two-day Training Workshop on Capacity Building for Community Based Organisations, which held recently at Hometel Hotel, Yola, Adamawa State, was facilitated by Dr. Lanre Adebayo, the Director-General, Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa (IGLSA).
Addressing the workshop, the Director General, explained that the workshop was aimed to kick-start a national project which was aimed at enhancing community governance, while also promoting collective leadership in the rural areas of Adamawa and beyond.
Dr. Adebayo explained that the project was put together based on a field report which disclosed that “a major cause of poverty in the country was the exclusion of the rural communities in governance and leadership as well as in the economic activities of the country”.
He stated that the programme was targeted at enhancing local capacities to harness the socio-economic potentials of Nigeria’s rural communities and drive their desire towards bringing up and sustaining development oriented projects.
He disclosed that Adamawa State was selected for the workshop against the background of a recent National Award conferred on the State Governor, Hon. Ahmad Umaru Fintiri by President Muhammadu Buhari as the best performing Governor in infrastructural development in the Country.
He added that Adamawa was selected because “it has been an oasis of peace in a relatively unstable region”.
The participants, after robust discussions on issues relating to the role of community development associations, were not left in any doubt on the relevance of the cooperative model in facilitating wealth creation and promoting prosperity, communication skills, accountability and governance around issues surrounding community
development.
The participants urged all stakeholders in the state to support the aspirations of Governor Fintiri for a second term in office so as to complete the great work he has started.
They also called for immediate establishment of Community Development Network, Adamawa state (CDNA) to promote inclusive community development and the adoption of the cooperative model to addressing rural poverty and promote economic prosperity.
The CDNA promised to partner with the State Government, local and international development organizations, to compliment current development strides.
Aside from extracting firm commitment to get to work immediately from the participants, the workshop opened their intellect to the vast potentials existing in rural areas and how adhering to the tenets of accountability and building synergy among the various communities would open up the vast economic potentials in the rural areas in Adamawa State and help project the state as one of the profitable industrial hubs in the country.
