The con-artists came calling. This story tells it all: Facebook: Get Your Knees Off My Neck
( https://www.thecable.ng/facebook-get-your-knees-off-my-neck/amp#.YHNgtGSZ40Z )
After this media onslaught, events unfolded in rapid succession.
By last Monday when TheCable, Vanguard and Newsguru, had published the lengthy article on the hacked account, the first sign that the swindlers had swam into tidal surge became noticeable as their devious hold on the Facebook wall was untwined.
But that was the dress rehearsal before the final routing.
By last Thursday when Vanguard (Print) and The Nation (Print and Online: https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/facebook-get-your-knees-off-my-neck/amp/) published the story of the grifters who took criminal possession of my Facebook platform, the noise had become so strident enough as to attract the attention of Facebook reputation managers in Nigeria and the top guys of the social media platform.
By that Thursday, a line of communication between yours sincerely and Facebook had opened and useful dialogues ensued. By then, the criminals who had given me nightmares for 40 days and 40 nights had taken a quick retreat.
Although this intervention took a bit longer than one would have expected, the Facebook team displayed high professional standards worthy of mention and acclaim. The team worked practically round the clock to ensure that the account is recovered and returned to me.
Early this morning, the nightmares came to an end. Kudos to Sola and her team in Facebook (Anglophone West Africa).
Deserving of much commendation and appreciation are top members of my primary constituency- The Media. I must mention Mr Victor Ifijeh, the Managing Director of The Nation, Mr Simon Kolawole, Publisher of The Cable, Mr Adekunle Adekoya, Deputy Editor of Vanguard and, of course, my dependable alter ego, Olufemi Ajasa of The Newsguru.
To my Facebook friends and contacts that the hackers inundated with series of phony transactions and fraudulent requests, I thank you profusely for your forbearance and your absolute conviction in the fact that such dubious messages could not have emanated from me.
Indeed, I appreciate the calls, the mails, the chats, the SMS etc which came in torrents, all expressing solidarity and the assurances that the ordeal will soon be over.
I’m truly happy to put this behind me and happier to be back here for good.
