The Kwara State chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP has saluted its gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Oladimeji Lawal on his 48th birthday anniversary, describing him as the new face of Kwara restoration and progress.
In a release from the party’s media office in Ilorin on Friday, the party prayed for Lawal’s good health, God’s protection and guidance in all ramifications as the journey to the forthcoming elections enters a crucial stage.
The party maintained that the State has been suffering from years of mis-governance by self-serving opportunists who have been at the helms of affairs of the state in recent times, and expressed the confidence that Lawal is capable of changing the fortunes of the state for good.
“The people, and only the people has been his focus…and we are very confident of his legacy and pedigree that he will build on the foundation built by his father to set this state on the path to progress, which has been abandoned by successive governments after him,” the party said,
It added that “hopefully, by this time next year, Kwara will be better positioned, with a pro-masses and purposeful leadership that prioritizes and amplifies the collective yearnings and aspirations of Kwarans.”
Speaking in line with the above, at gubernatorial debate for the governorship candidates in Ilorin last week, Lawal recalled that “from inception, Kwara State was created based on two principles of comparative advantage: Human Resources and Agriculture. This was what led to the boom where the State provided the major Human Resources to the civil service in Northern Nigeria.”
To secure a solid financial base, he also projected a revenue target of about N10 billion from the current a N2 billion Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the State, to boost his revolution in the education, industry and health sector.
Lawal, a Chief Executive Officer at Heich and Heich, studied Economics at University of Portsmouth and has a Master of Science degree in International Finance at University of Surrey.
He was the former Chairman Finance Committee at Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, Nigeria. He was also a Former Financial Analyst at MaxGavlin Consulting, United Kingdom and Investment Analyst at Amlin Plc.
