The former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele will now spend his Christmas and New Year at home.
He was released at the weekend from Kuje Prison after perfecting his bail conditions.
Emefiele is standing trial for a variety of crimes bordering on money laundering and fraud.
Justice Hamza Muazu granted the bail of N300 million on Friday to ensure his release. He was to provide two sureties in like sum.
On November 18 Emefiele faced six-count charge relating to procurement fraud and using his position to confer a corrupt advantage on Sa’adatu Yaro, a staff of CBN.
He was said to have awarded a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between.
This took place between 2018 and 2020.
The Jim Obazee’s probe of CBN revealed which was submitted to President Bola Tinubu on December 9 2023, indicated that Emefiele who was in office from June 2014 to June 2023, engaged “in fraudulent cash withdrawal of $6.23 million”
He was also said to have kept 543.4 million pounds in the United Kingdom.
His release may not be the end of his ordeal given the fresh can of worms unveiled by the Federal Government
