ANABA, VANGUARD EDITOR BECOMES NEW PRESIDENT OF NIGERIAN GUILD OF EDITORS

Anaba rose through the ranks in the Vanguard and has done almost every editorial job at the newspaper organization.

The Guild of Editors Conference and Convention in Owerri, Imo State has produced Mr. Eze ANABA, Editor of Vanguard Newspaper as the new President of the Guild, where Husseina Bangshika emerged as Deputy President

Anaba rose through the ranks in the Vanguard and has done almost every editorial job at the newspaper organization. These include working as Law and Human Rights Editor, Deputy News Editor, Saturday Editor, and Deputy Editor.

He has a Master’s in Communication Studies from the prestigious Leicester University, United Kingdom.
He has served in two Federal Government-appointed committees: the Law Reform Committee during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Administration and the Committee on the Abrogation of Death Penalty in Nigeria.

He is also a leading member of the civil society movement in the country.

Over the years, Anaba has deployed the expertise and experiences from these positions and networks to promote and advance media freedom and diversity in the country

Also elected were Umoru Ibrahim, VP North, Kabir Alabi Garba, VP West, Sheddy Ozoene, VP East, Iyobosa Uwugiaren, General Secretary, Gabriel Akinadewo, Assistant General Secretary, Steve Nwosu, Treasurer, and Charles Kalu, Social/Publicity Secretary.

The following were elected into the Standing C’ttee: Paulyn Ugbodaga and Muhammad S. Jibrin (North), Onuoha Ukeh, Oluwole Sogunle and Rose Moses (West) and Chinedu Egere and Dom Isute (East). They will serve for a period of 2 years.

1. Lateef Jakande (1961-1970)
2. Alade Odunewu (1970-1972)
3. Horatio Agedah (1973-1975)
4. Turi Muhammad (1975-1976)
5. Tony Momoh (1976-1978)
6. Chris Okolie (1978-1982)
7. Mohammed Ibrahim (1982-1983)
8. Onyema Ugochukwu (1988-1990)
9. Wada Maida (1990-1992)
10. Biodun Oduwole (1993-1995)
11. Garba Shehu (1996-1998)
12. Remi Oyo (1998-2003)
13. Haliru Dantiye (2003-2007)
14. Gbenga Adefaye (2008-2012)
15. Femi Adesina (2013-2015)
16. Garbadeen Muhammad (2015-2016)
17. Funke Egbemode (2016-2019)
18. Isa Mustapha (2019-2023).

Bolaji Adebiyi, his main opponent in the contest has also accepted the outcome and congratulated ANABA and all winners who emerged for the various positions in the election.

Let their labor of service not be in vain. Energetic and committed Eze Anaba will consolidate the legacies of these past leaders. Vote for purposeful leadership; vote for Eze Anaba.
