After troops of the Nigerian Army recovered Marte in Borno State from the grip of Boko Haram, the terrorists resurfaced in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital on Tuesday evening with rocket explosion that left ten dead and 47 injured
Sources say explosions were also heard in Mairi area, a student’s village near the University of Maiduguri.
The military is said to have deployed gun trucks to the area as earlier reports indicated that worshippers in a mosque on the street called “Layin Bori” may have been killed.
Hospital officials where the affected persons were rushed to, confirmed the figures to Governor Babagana Zulum who was there to assess the situation.
There was panic in the area at about 7:00 pm when multiple sources reported gunshots and explosions near the Gomari area of the state.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, had on Sunday given the troops a 48-hour ultimatum to recover the town.
“The troops backed by air cover from the Nigerian Air force , successfully charged through Marte town, destroying several Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and landmines laced across their routes and killing scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and successfully recovered the town,” a statement signed by army spokesman Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima, said.
