Renowned journalist, writer and publisher of the Cable News online, Simon Kolawole will speak on the dilemma between journalism and activism at the sixth edition of the annual University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumini Association (UMCAA) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall of the campus on the18th of April 2024 from 10am.
The Distinguished Lecture Series which is the main annual event of UMCAA) has become a platform for experts to give their opinion on the burning issues in the country. Afterwards, communiques are released to all media houses. This year’s edition holds during the Homecoming festival of graduates of the department noted as the leading mass communication department in west Africa will witness the return of great communication experts who graduated from the department and have become noted for communication exploits across the world.
The three-day celebration will celebrate the graduates returning to collectively give back to their alma mater. Under their Town meets Gown projects, they will be hosting series of Colloquial to celebrate the return and mingle with the students presently at the department.
The THISDAY Columnist will be the Speaker at the 6th edition of the annual Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS). Speaking on the topic for this year, the President of the Alumni Association, Adewale Williams said “As journalists, many of us face the challenge of understanding when we are practicing journalism or when we become activists.”
“The general populace too ends up really understanding the point. It has become a major dilemma that has to be addressed. And the best person to do justice to this burning issue is no other than a renowned communicator with all the experience in the business.”
