On behalf of the IPI global community, I would like to express my
heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Chairman Olusegun Osoba, the
esteemed members of the NIJ Governing Council and all the
colleagues and friends of IPI at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. My
deep respect also to Chief Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu for the
Fellowship Award that he is receiving today.
It is wonderful to see that after almost six decades of existence, NIJ
today remains such an important institution for the promotion of the
type of quality, independent, resilient journalism that Nigeria needs.
The core journalistic values that NIJ disseminates through its
educational programmes are in line with the values of the IPI global
community and strengthen IPI mission in the promotion of
independent journalism worldwide.
IPI is very proud to have contributed to the creation of such an
important institution like the NIJ and we very much hope that the
many future editors and journalists who are learning their profession
at NIJ will eventually come to join IPI and be part of a global
community that fights for the right of journalists to carry out their job
freely, ethically and without fear of retaliation.
On behalf of IPI, I would like to wish much success to NIJ and pay
tribute to the important work that it has done over the years and will
continue to do in the years to come in support of independent
journalism in Nigeria.
Sincerely,
Barbara Trionfi
