A new National Executive Committee of St. Patrick’s Grammar School Alumni has been inaugurated to run the affairs of the 61-year-old, all boys’ secondary school in Ibadan for the next two years.
It was an epoch-making event as it taught some lessons in democracy; the election was conducted through e-voting, which enabled all qualified voters to participate in the process from across the world in a seamless exercise commended by all.
The new executive will be led by Dr. Dayo Mobereola, former Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Transport Area Transport Authority as President.
It parades others including Agboola Abiona and Boye Atanda as Vice-presidents and veteran journalist Ayo Aluko-Olokun as General Secretary.Other members are Patrick Akinyode and Gabriel as Assistant General Secretaries, Olajide Henry Oduyoye as Treasurer, Yusuf Oloyede Financial Secretary; Oladele Simeon Adewale Internal Auditor; Isiaka Akinbode, Welfare Officer; Olusogo Faluro, Social Secretary and Kayode Ademuyiwa as Publicity Secretary.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Mobereola, promised to lead the Alumni Association to greatness by harnessing all the talents and contacts of members most of whom are well placed in the society for the development of the school.
He commended the achievements of his predecessor, Mr. John Onobote FCA, for fulfilling the mandates given to it by the Annual General Meeting, culminating in the election of members of the new Executive. He thanked him for personally bearing the cost of digitizing the school register from inception in 1962 up to year 2002.
Dr. Mobereola pledged that the new executives of Alumni Association will work towards uniting all the different generations of students that have graduated from the school and come up with plans that will position the school as one of the leading institutions in Oyo State.
He recommended the process adopted in the electing the members of the National Executive Committee to the entire country saying technology can make the cost of election cheaper and the process more transparent and therefore credible without arguments and rancour.
The Annual Conference of St. Patrick’s Grammar School Ibadan, holds on the commemorative day of St. Patrick’s which is March 17, every year.
