The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has urged about 1130 Constables of the Nigerian Police to uphold integrity and serve with distinction. He gave the charge today in his goodwill message at the 2022 Constable Passing-Out parade at the Police College, Ikeja.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged them to embrace professionalism and the highest ethical standards by treating the citizens with respect while carrying out their duties. He added that they must never compromise their integrity even in the face of adversity.

Mr. Governor congratulated the constables for their hard work, commitment and dedication during the six-month rigorous training at the college. He said “You have made your State, Country, and Families very proud. The oath you have taken today is a solemn commitment to uphold the law, protect lives and property, and serve the public with integrity, courage, and compassion. The challenges ahead will be demanding, but your training and values will guide you”.

Sanwo-Olu, however, implored them to pursue continuous learning and professional development to stay abreast of modern policing techniques and best practices in addition to supporting one another.

The Governor appreciated the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Ishola Olanrewaju, and the faculty of the Police College for their guidance and care during the recruits’ training. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of the parents and guardians, whose efforts, he noted, culminated in the significant milestone of the constables.

In his address, the Review Officer and Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, admonished the constables to work hard for the safety and security of the country. He stressed the need to be calm but firm in utilising their authority to protect and enforce the law.

Among the 1130 graduating constables were 313 females and 717 males out of whom are 266 Lagos State indigenes.

A similar passing-out parade is being done simultaneously in four other Police Colleges and 12 training schools, bringing the total number of graduates to 10,000 across the federation.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to the overall Best Constables in different categories of training as they embark on their journey to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and contribute to the safety and security of the nation.
